Daskalolivnitsata (Elena teacher – training school) – the first Bulgarian pedagogical school, was established in the autumn of 1843 by Ivan Momchilov.

Featuring among the graduates of the school was the great patriot Petko R. Slaveikov, who aptly characterised it as a place ‘brewing’ teachers.

Daskalolivnitsata was the first Bulgarian civil structure in Elena, built in 1844 for the needs of the class school.

An ensemble of interesting buildings of a definite architectural and artistic value, took shape around it.
